ASEAN’s Expanding Export Base
ASEAN’s Expanding Export Base
ASEAN exports jumped 22.5% in 2025, with Asia accounting for the majority of regional growth, while the U.S. emerged as the largest individual export market in Q1 2026.
ASEAN’s export expansion continues to gather pace. Exports reached USD 2.38 trillion in 2025, up 22.5% year-on-year and more than double the USD 1.16 trillion recorded in 2015. Asia remains the anchor, with exports rising from USD 779 billion to USD 1.44 trillion over the decade, equivalent to a 6.3% CAGR. But the fastest long-term growth has come from further afield: exports to North America grew at 13.7% annually and Latin America and the Caribbean at 10.5%, highlighting the widening geographic reach of ASEAN trade.
That diversification is also visible at the market level. The U.S. was ASEAN’s largest individual export market in Q1 2026 with a 14% share, followed by China at 12%; together, however, they accounted for only 26% of exports. Nine of the top 10 destinations were in Asia, underscoring deep regional integration and increasingly global export reach.
