Türkiye Is Emerging as Europe’s Nearshoring Anchor for Industrial Production
The EU and China Lead Global Exports
Exports grew 19% yoy in the first eight months of 2026, with regional growth ranging from 7% in North America to 26% in Africa.
China’s exports are expanding across all six major world regions in 2026, but growth rates vary considerably. In the first eight months of the year, total exports reached USD 2.92 trillion, up 19% year-on-year, reflecting the extraordinary geographical reach of China’s export economy.
Asia remains the centre of gravity, absorbing USD 1.52 trillion (up 23% yoy), or 51.9% of total exports; more than Europe and North America combined. Hong Kong SAR (USD 306 bn), Vietnam (USD 164 bn), South Korea (USD 129 bn), Japan (USD 111 bn) and India (USD 108 bn) lead the way.
Europe received USD 598 bn in Chinese exports, up 17% yoy, confirming its position as China’s second-largest regional market, with Germany (USD 92 bn), Russia (USD 85 bn) and the Netherlands (USD 67 bn) as prominent destinations.
North America presents a different picture. Growth was the slowest among the six regions, at 7% yoy, yet the U.S. alone received USD 300 bn in Chinese exports, underscoring the enduring scale of the trading relationship. Latin America absorbed USD 221 bn, up 14% yoy, led by Mexico (USD 64 bn) and Brazil (USD 57 bn).
Africa saw the fastest expansion, with exports up 26% yoy to USD 177 bn, led by Nigeria (USD 21 bn), South Africa (USD 19 bn) and Egypt (USD 15 bn). Oceania also grew 24% to USD 72 bn, driven overwhelmingly by Australia (USD 57 bn).
For businesses, the picture shows both concentration and opportunity. Asia, Europe and North America still account for nearly 84% of China’s exports, but faster growth in Africa and Oceania highlights the widening geographical reach of Chinese suppliers.
