Machinery Anchors China’s Exports
Machinery & Electronics accounted for nearly half of China’s goods exports in the first eight months of 2026, led by integrated circuits at USD 257 billion and 104% yoy growth.
Machinery & Electronics is the backbone of China’s export economy. In the first eight months of 2026, this sector’s exports reached USD 1.41 trillion, accounting for 48% of China’s total goods exports and nearly three times the value of light manufacturing exports.
Integrated circuits stand out for both their scale and momentum. At USD 257 billion, they were the largest product group within Machinery & Electronics, accounting for 18% of sector exports. Their remarkable 104% year-on-year (yoy) growth highlights the accelerating importance of semiconductors in China’s export mix. Telephones & communications equipment followed at USD 145 billion, with computers & data processing machines contributing another USD 114 billion.
Production and export activity remain geographically concentrated. Guangdong led with USD 382 billion in Machinery & Electronics exports, followed by Jiangsu at USD 282 billion. Together, these two provinces accounted for 47% of national Machinery & Electronics exports.
Growth is also extending beyond semiconductors. Office machine parts & accessories rose 200% to USD 76 billion, while electric accumulators & separators grew 38%. For businesses, the picture is of an export sector combining enormous industrial scale with rapid shifts in product demand, reinforcing China’s importance across global electronics and machinery supply chains.
