The EU and China Lead Global Exports Across Strategic Manufacturing Sectors

China’s largest provincial exporter leads by a wide margin, with machinery and electronics dominating its export base and Hong Kong SAR, the U.S. and Vietnam as its largest markets.

Guangdong sits at the centre of China’s global export economy. The province generated USD 641 billion in exports in January-August 2026, accounting for about 22% of China’s total and outperforming second-ranked Jiangsu by 31%.

Its export strength rests heavily on Machinery & Electronics, which generated USD 382 billion so far in 2026, nearly 60% of the provincial total. Light manufacturing contributed another USD 98 billion, illustrating the breadth of Guangdong’s industrial base. Hong Kong SAR, a major re-export hub, and the U.S. remain its largest export destinations, together accounting for 35% of exports, while Vietnam ranked third.

Guangdong’s exports have grown 31% over the past decade, reaching a record USD 843 billion in 2025. Momentum has strengthened in 2026: exports rose 16.2% year-on-year during the first eight months, reaching USD 641 billion. At the current average monthly pace, full-year 2026 exports would approach USD 962 billion, approximately 14% above 2025. Although this simple projection does not account for seasonality or changing trade conditions, Guangdong appears firmly on course to surpass last year’s record.

For global businesses, Guangdong remains a critical manufacturing and sourcing centre, combining industrial scale, technological capabilities and extensive international trade connections.
