China’s Mining Exports Have More Than Doubled in Value Since 2015

China Dominates Global Mining and Industrial Equipment Exports

From 17% in 2015 to nearly 23% in 2025, China has quietly come to dominate the inbound supply chains of mines on every continent, and the trajectory shows no sign of reversing.

China’s position in global mining supply chains is not a recent development; it is the result of a decade of sustained industrial expansion that has fundamentally reshaped where mines around the world source their equipment, consumables and infrastructure.

In 2015, China accounted for 17% of global mining supply exports. By 2025, that figure had reached an estimated 22.2%, representing USD 415 billion in annual exports. Two moments define the trajectory. In 2020, China’s share jumped even as global trade volumes fell, demonstrating supply-chain resilience no other economy matched. In the 2021-2022 post-COVID commodity boom, China captured a disproportionate share of surging global demand, peaking at 23.3% in 2022.

For mining procurement leaders, China’s growing dominance of global mining supply exports is the single most important structural fact about their inbound supply chains that warrants a formal, category-level assessment of exposure.
